John Coleman

CAA Member since 2001
Born: July 27, 1949

John Coleman’s passion and talent for art was encouraged at an early age. After a detour as an entrepreneur, at 44 he immersed himself in the career he was destined to have — his art.

John’s work as a sculptor was quickly recognized and he was elected to the National Sculpture Society of New York City where he is now a Fellow Member. Membership in the prestigious Cowboy Artists of America soon followed. Found in private and permanent collections of museums and corporations around the world, John’s work has earned him many awards in the most revered shows. In 2012, John won the Anne Marion Best of Show Award and Gold Medal Award for sculpture for 1876, Gall — Sitting Bull — Crazy Horse. At the 2013 CAA show John won a Silver Medal for Drawing and Other Media.

“I am very proud to have received the James Earle Fraser Sculpture Award and the Jackie L. Coles Buyers’ Choice Award for my monumental sculpture, Honeymoon at Crow Fair, at Prix de West this year. I’m equally proud that the National Cowboy Museum has purchased this piece for their permanent collection.”

Highly regarded as a teacher, John freely shares his insights and techniques during workshops. Dividing his time between sculpting and painting, John remains the consummate student himself — always reaching for new knowledge and techniques that will translate into his best work ever.
