Bill Owen Painting Selected for Poetry Week Poster

Bill Owen's "Born to This Land" was selected as the art for the ninth annual Cowboy Poetry Week poster art. Cowboy Poetry Week runs from April 18-24, 2010, and is sponsored by the non-profit Center for Western and Cowboy Poetry. This annual event is officially recognized by unanimous resolution of the United States Senate and 22 states' governors and is celebrated in communities across the West.

The title of Owen's painting, “Born to this Land,” is from a poem by past Texas Poet Laureate and Honorary CAA Member Red Steagall, who is also an acclaimed singer, songwriter, radio and television host, and entertainer. Owen's painting depicts a Northern Arizona rancher and his son seen enjoying each other's company while waiting for the last few head of cattle to arrive at the hold up.

“Fathers often teach the cowboy profession, which includes respect for the land, to their youngsters," says Owen.
