CAA Members Mentor 75 During CAA Week

The Cowboy Artists of America recently launched a new mentoring program to help cultivate the next generation of Western American artists. Its first official event, CAA Week, was held in April at Scottsdale Artists' School where the following CAA members held workshops for more than 75 up-and-coming Western artists: Harley Brown, John Coleman, Bruce Greene, Mehl Lawson, Oreland C. Joe and R.S. Riddick.

The intense, three-to-five day workshops offered students the opportunity to study under the masters within their field, who provided them with consistent, strong fundamentals in art.

“It was a fabulous week, and the end result is that attendees were exposed to a lot of good thought about this genre of art,” says CA Bruce Greene, one of the instructors.

In support of CAA Week, the Joe Beeler Cowboy Artists Foundation awarded scholarships to seven artists so they could attend the workshops. Scottsdale Artists' School matched this effort, with a total of 14 scholarships provided to attendees to help with the costs of the classes.

“After it was all over, the students left exhausted but happy with their experiences here at the school and asking about coming back and doing it again in 2011,” says Scottsdale Artists' School Executive Director Michelle Korf.
